but there they all are,
overwhelmed with dread, where there was
not a thing to dread
From Psalm 53.
Do all these evildoers know nothing?
They devour my people as though eating bread;
they never call on God.
But there they are, overwhelmed with dread,
where there was nothing to dread.
God scattered the bones of those who attacked you;
you put them to shame, for God despised them.
Verses 4 and 5.
Of course this the Psalm that opens with:
The fool says in his heart,
“There is no God.”
But there I am.
I admit right now I am overwhelmed with dread.
Covid.
Finances.
What might happen in the White House.
But I am not fool enough to say there is no God.
That leaves me to work out that there is not a thing to dread.
