8.3.2024 – ignored needy, poor

ignored needy, poor
and God is going to hold
us responsible

Ezekiel the prophet once said, “Behold, this was the iniquity of Sodom, pride”.

Sodom was very proud.

They excluded God.

They were proud of themselves and the things they’d done.

And then they were filled with bread, it says. “And abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters”.

In other words, they had all the things that they needed to give them leisure in their lives.

“Neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy”.

They ignored the needy and the poor.

And the oppressed of the world.

Many times we ignore those of other races.

We ignore those people in Africa that are suffering from famine.

Or maybe we don’t ignore them, but we don’t do much about it.

Not as much as we could do.

And God is going to hold us responsible.

And they were haughty, and committed abominations before me.

In other words, they were proud, haughty, rich.

They had it all, and they neglected the poor and the oppressed of the world, and God said, “Judgment is going to come”

Billy Graham speaking at a Crusade in Sheffield, UK in June of 1985.

We hear a lot of Sodom the wicked city and this old place works its way into today’s new cycle more and more.

And what was Sodom’s sin?

NOT WHAT YOU’RE THINKING!

Behold, this was the iniquity of Sodom, pride” says Ezekiel.

Pride.

“Neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy.”

As the Rev. Graham says, “In other words, they were proud, haughty, rich. They had it all, and they neglected the poor and the oppressed of the world, and God said, “Judgment is going to come”

Does raise a certain level of conversation does it not?

8.1.2024 – we will all wake some

we will all wake some
morning to learn that there is
not one decent man

We doubt that there ever was a time in this country when so many people were trying to discredit so many other people. About a year ago, we started to compile a handbook of defamation, showing who was disemboweling whom in America, but the list soon got too big for us and we abandoned the project as both unwieldy and unlovely. Discreditation has become a national sickness, for which no cure has so far been found, and there is a strong likelihood that we will all wake some morning to learn that in the whole land there is not one decent man. Vilification, condemnation, revelation—these supply a huge part of the columns of the papers, and the story of life in the Unit.

From the essay, Discredit of Others, published on October 4th, 1952 in the New Yorker Magazine and republished in On democracy / E. B. White; edited by Martha White; foreword by Jon Meacham, New York, Harper Collins, 2019.

In the forward to the book is this quote from Mr. White.

To hold America in one’s thoughts is like holding a love letter in one’s hand—it has so special a meaning.

7.30.2024 – accumulating

accumulating
digital material
stress, anxiety

Based on the article, I save all my texts and photos. But do I really need them? by Adrian Horton, who writes:

I don’t have this compulsion to save in the physical realm, where I regularly purge outdated, irrelevant items with little thought. But I am sentimental, and identify with what experts call “digital hoarding” – accumulating excess digital material to the point of causing stress and anxiety.

I checked my cloud and I can count 11 zip folders of images downloaded over the years from different phones I have owned.

If I un zip them, I have huge folders of images, images that I want to keep … I think.

My solution is to create free gmail addresses to get free 15GB Gdrives to store these files … which take time to upload.

Then I have to remember the email addresses and which files are where and the password and when everything is uploaded do I still dare delete these files from my laptop .. which is dieing anyway.

Doing all of this has me to the point of causing stress and anxiety.
