7.19.2021 – beach rules cares at home

beach rules cares at home
no worries no concerns but
carry that iPhone

It drives me nuts.

And it breaks my heart.

At the same time.

Seeing the tourons who have worked, earned, scraped and saved for their week on the beach and they finally get here.

They finally get to the beach.

Their feet are in the water.

The connections are established and all the worries, cares and fears are drained away if just for a short time.

A short time that might last longer.

If only …

If only they could leave that iPhone behind.

Part of a series based on afternoons spent at the beach on Hilton Head Island.

I wanted to see if I would be ‘inspired’ by what I saw, by what I heard, by what I smelled, by what I tasted, what I felt emotionally and what I felt tactilely.

Some turned out okay.

Some were too forced.

Some were just bad.

Some did involve some or all of those feelings.

As far as it goes, I guess I was inspired by by what I saw, by what I heard, by what I smelled, by what I tasted, what I felt emotionally and what I felt tactilely.

7.16.2021 – Joseph Joseph yells

Joseph Joseph yells
Dad Joseph stopped looked
Joseph ran away

Sitting at the beach and listening.

I am aware of the beach dog rules,

From Memorial Day to Labor Day, no dogs on the beach.

Months of April, May and September, dogs can be on the beach but on a lease.

From October 1 to April 1, dogs can be on the beach and under voice command.

Kids are never not allowed on the beach.

And if you listen, kids are never under voice command either.

7.12.2021 – close in off the shore

close in off the shore

its where the shrimp are

On a day at the beach, a shrimper came along the coast close enough to swim to.

Why in so close my wife wondered outloud.

I guessed that is was where the shrimp are.

7.5.2021 – you are a blackguard

you are a blackguard,
liar, hypocrite, stench in
honest man nostrils

Maybe it is the way Henry Fonda says it but this is one of the best name-callings in all of the movies.

After Lieutenant Colonel Owen Thursday examines items for sale in the local reservation store, he says to the store manager, “Mr. Meacham, you’re a blackguard, a liar, a hypocrite… and a stench in the nostrils of honest men. If it were in my power…
I’d hang you from the nearest tree, leave your carcass for the buzzards.
But as you are a representative of the United States government…
I pledge you the protection and cooperation of my command.
Good day, sir.

Wish someone, anyone had the standing and the place and the nerve to say to this one feller much in the news today.

Not that I think he would understand it but it would be nice to hear someone say it to him.

From the Movie Fort Apache, with Henry Fonda and John Wayne, directed by John Ford, 1948.
