Henry Louis Mencken was an American journalist, essayist, satirist, cultural critic, and scholar of American English. He commented widely on the social scene, literature, music, prominent politicians, and contemporary movements.

kind of confidence
born of ignorance leads folks
walk off earths flat edge

I know I got the google to check on this but my memory is good enough for me and in my memory I have this quote attributed to HL Mencken along the line that no one ever went broke betting against the American intellect.

And we can’t have that can we.
